Accomplishments

Hands on Greenville structured a river sweep from Falls park to Cleveland Park, all the way past the horse stables. Participating in this event was Alltel, Hughes Academy Explorers, and Cub Scout Pack 62.

Christ Church and JL Mann Honor Society did a joint cleanup of FoRR’s Longbranch property. This was supported by Greenville County Sheriff’s Department Environmental Services Division, who provided a dump truck for the collection of the trash.

Friends of the Reedy River, in partnership with Greenville County Parks and Recreation and the Strom Thurmond Institute Water Resources Center. sponsored the first annual Reedy River Paddlefest at Greenville Tech’s Brazier Campus. Over 70 boaters participated in the event and aided in raising awareness of the river’s water quality.

FoRR also participated in a native plant rescue. Numerous native plants at risk for destruction were moved to an area along the Reedy River on FoRR’s property near the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Check it out if you are over at Fall’s Park or Cleveland Park!

We are also actively participating as a stakeholder in the SC DHEC Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) study, which will provide a goal of total allowable levels of nutrients and other substances in the river and suggest ways to reach these goals.
