I welcome you to the Friends of the Reedy River web site, and applaud your interest in this wonderful and historic watershed. The Reedy River’
s place in Greenville’s history is significant, as is its place in Greenville’s future. But the more complete understanding of the Reedy River is not just its flow of water coursing through the City of Greenville, but rather as an important watershed that touches, and is touched by, communities spread across three counties in the upstate of South Carolina.

Without question, the Friends of the Reedy River is strongly committed to protection, conservation, and restoration efforts necessary to improve and ensure sustainability of the Reedy as a natural resource.

We also understand that the Reedy River has reemerged as a significant economic asset, evidenced by the close ties of the City of Greenville’s identity with the river and a related surge of commercial activity in close proximity. And we clearly understand that the river and its special places hold tremendous value as a social and cultural resource.

Our mission, therefore, is to promote a sustainable balance of the Reedy River’s environmental, economic, and social value as a unique and historical natural resource.

To this end, the Friends of the Reedy River organizes and executes a number of activities including:

• Citizen Education and Training Initiatives

• Grassroots Environmental Oversight and Advocacy

• Sustainable Development Dialogue among Stakeholders

• Development of Public-Private-Nonprofit Partnerships

• Conservation and Protection of Sensitive Properties

• Environmental Stewardship and Volunteer Opportunities

All of our work takes talent, time and resources that require a good deal of public funding, all of which comes through membership fees, grants and individual and corporate donations. I hope that your visit to our website inspires you to become involved with our ongoing efforts with the Reedy River. The Reedy is our river…the Reedy is our responsibility.
