Cleveland Park Stables Rain Garden Cleanup
October 30th 2021 (
- 11:30 AM
Calling all plant enthusiasts! Friends of the Reedy River is pleased to present an opportunity for community members to participate in a Rain Garden Cleanup at Cleveland Park Stables on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 8:30am - 11:30 am.
Rain gardens, or bioretention areas, are shallow landscaped depressions designed to collect, temporarily store, filter, and infiltrate stormwater runoff from developed sites. They help protect streams and rivers by improving stormwater quality and by mimicking natural hydrology to help reduce runoff, channel erosion and flooding. The rain gardens in the Stables area of Cleveland Park need some "TLC" to ensure they are able to perform properly and stay functional and beautiful for years to come. Learn more about rain gardens HERE!
We will be working in the rain gardens and riparian planting areas to hand-pull invasive plant species and small saplings, spread mulch, plant new desirable plants, and more! Qualified personnel will be present to help volunteers correctly identify desirable versus undesirable vegetation, making this a great opportunity to learn more about native plants in our region!
Please come prepared to get dirty -- long pants & closed toe shoes are strongly recommended. Please bring a water bottle, sun protection, gardening gloves if you have them, and a face mask in case you are in close proximity to other individuals. All other supplies and tools will be provided.
We will follow up with additional details via email prior to the event. All registrants must complete WAIVERS to participate. Contact [email protected] with questions. Thank you for your interest in supporting Friends of the Reedy River! We look forward to seeing you soon!
