Since 2001, the BMW Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament (BMWCPA) has generated more than $15 million for Upstate SC charities. through this premier event. Additionally, the BMWCPA is committed to a 100% carbon event, with no waste going to the landfill. Since supporting this commitment from its inception in 2021, Friends of the Reedy River (FoRR) is now organizing and leading sustainability support volunteers for 2023.
We are filling over 200 Green Team volunteer shifts between June 5th and 11th. Shifts are 4 to 4 and a half hours at Thornblade Club in Greer or Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg. Each volunteer gets a Green Team t-shirt and a set of tournament credentials. You can choose however many shifts you would like to work! And please keep in mind that each volunteer shift earns $50 for FoRR or a designated, registered charity of your choice!
There are two primary volunteer assignments for Green Team volunteers:
1) Course Sweep: Using golf carts, Course Sweep volunteers (in pairs) will circulate to collect trash and recyclables from the golf course and additional venues; then deliver them to a central collection point.
2) Skybox Assist and Skybox Sweep: This role will take place in the hospitality suites area at the 18th hole. These volunteers help make sure that food waste and empty containers are placed in the correct receptacles. *Because there is alcohol served on the premises, we ask that all volunteers are 18 or older.
In addition, there are some off-the-course volunteer opportunities that also involve helping ensure trash ends up in the correct receptacles.
- Tuesday, June 6 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm at the VIP area of Delaney's Irish Pub in Spartanburg. Entertainment by Diamond Rio band
- Thursday, June 8 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm at 3's Golf of Greenville
- Friday, June 9 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Bon Secour Arena for the Sustainability Summit
- Friday, June 9 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm at Bon Secour Arena for the Celebration
After you register and closer to the event, you will receive details about picking up your credentials and Green Team t-shirts, how/when to get to the venue, where to park, how to check in, etc. Again, THANK YOU for being part of this ambitious undertaking.
