2022 Fall River Cleanup

Join Friends of the Reedy River on Saturday, September 17 from 8:30 am - 11:30 am for our Fall River Cleanup! You will receive a confirmation email with your assigned check-in location and additional details prior to the Cleanup (no later than 9/15). In the event of inclement weather, the cleanup will be rescheduled for September 24.

Please dress appropriately- wear clothes that can get wet & dirty, and waders or boots if you have them! FoRR will provide all other necessary items, such as gloves, vests, trash grabbers, trash bags, tools, etc. We will follow up with additional details about what to expect prior to the Cleanup.

Sites for this year's Fall Cleanup include:

  • Riverside Apartments: 1121 Tsali Circle, Greenville, SC 29601 (just downstream from Swamp Rabbit Cafe)
  • S. Hudson Street to Westfield Street (S. Hudson Street behind A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School)
  • Woodland Way Corridor (847 Cleveland St, Greenville, formerly called "First Baptist Site")
  • Log Shoals (210 Log Shoals Rd, Greenville, SC 29607)

Check-in information

Check in is at 8:30.

What to wear:

Lightweight clothes. Long pants & long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Closed-toed shoes (old jogging shoes, closed-toed sandals, hip/chest waders, etc.) only. Clothes & footwear that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. NO open-toed shoes. We also suggest a cap or hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

What to bring:

Water bottle and gloves, if you have them. If not, we will provide them.  We will also provide grabbers, litter collection bags, and drinking water.

What to do:

Follow your site leader’s instructions at all times. Check-in is at 8:30, begin cleanup approximately at 9:00 a.m. Stay safe, have fun. Between 11:00 – 11:30, out of the river, trash piled at central pickup site, equipment returned to check-in site, and you’re on your way! 

Afterwards:

Pickup your t-shirts. Finally, if you plan to attend the afterparty at Southernside Brewing Co (25 Delano Dr, Unit D) please be sure to get a red ticket before leaving your cleanup site. AND MUCH THANKS!!

Riverside Apartments:

This site is just downstream from Swamp Rabbit Cafe at 1121 Tsali Circle. Please park in the Riverside Apartment complex parking lot, on the backside. Overflow parking is available at Mount Calvary Baptist Church at 115 Cedar Lane Road. Look for our check-in tent behind the Riverside Apartments. S. Hudson St to Westfield St: 

Park in the parking lot off Hudson St. behind A.J. Whittenberg Elementary (behind the school and next to the Swamp Rabbit Trail). Look for the check-in spot in the parking lot next to the trail. 420 Westfield St. (Check-in location at approx. (34.849362, -82.409763)


Woodland Way:

This site is formerly known as First Baptist. Please park in back portion of the First Baptist Church parking lot (847 Cleveland St.), walk downhill to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and go left. Check-in is on the backside of the baseball field. (Check-in location at approx. (34.833648, -82.379132). Parking location is at approx. (34.832265, -82.379125). 


S. Pleasantburg Nursery:

This site is behind the S. Pleasantburg Nursery at 1135 S. Pleasantburg Drive. Parking is straight down the nursery driveway and behind a big storage barn. Check-in is in the parking lot. (34.808607, -82.368165)


Log Shoals:

This site is in a residential area and one of our amazing FoRR volunteers is allowing us to park at his home at 2561 Standing Springs Road, Greenville. Our check-in site is at the same property. Please note: This is a litter cleanup only and does not require in-the-water gear. Volunteers should wear long pants and sturdy shoes and bring insect repellent because there can be dense vegetation along the river.
