DESCRIPTION:
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO THE PRE-DETERMINED &quot\;RAIN DATE&quot\; OF FEBRUARY 24.&nbsp\;

We have made the unfortunate decision to postpone this event to our pre-determined rain date of next Thursday\, February 24\, from 8:30-11:30am. The lead time needed to communicate with our partners regarding tool and facility access requires us to make this decision with the currently available weather predictions which indicate a high likelihood of rain during our event. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and do hope that you are able to join on the rescheduled date next week. If you are no longer able to attend\, please let us know via email.

Thank you for your understanding.

Friends of the Reedy River is pleased to present our second Cleveland Park Stables Rain Garden Maintenance Day on Thursday\, <s>February 17 </s>&nbsp\;FEBRUARY 24&nbsp\;&nbsp\;from 8:30am to 11:30am.

As with our last Cleveland Park Stables event in October 2021\, we will focus on teaching volunteers about the importance of rain gardens\, riparian buffer zones\, native plants\, and invasive plant species removal- specifically hand-pulling invasive plant species and small saplings and spreading mulch to reduce runoff. We will focus on the rain gardens we did not get to during our first event and\, time-permitting\, do some follow-up maintenance in the front-most rain gardens that we worked on last time. We may also transplant some desirable plants to more suitable locations. Qualified personnel will be present to help volunteers correctly identify desirable versus undesirable vegetation\, making this a&nbsp\;great opportunity for all experience levels!

Rain gardens\, or bioretention areas\, are shallow landscaped depressions designed to collect\, temporarily store\, filter\, and infiltrate stormwater runoff from developed sites. They help protect streams and rivers by improving stormwater quality and by mimicking natural hydrology to help reduce runoff\, channel erosion and flooding. The rain gardens in the Stables area of Cleveland Park need some &quot\;TLC&quot\; to ensure they are able to perform properly and stay functional and beautiful for years to come.

Please come prepared to get dirty -- long pants &amp\; closed toe shoes are strongly recommended. Please bring a water bottle\, sun protection\, gardening gloves if you have them\, and a face mask in case you are in close proximity to other individuals. All other supplies and tools will be provided.&nbsp\;

We will follow up with additional details via email to registered individuals prior to the event.&nbsp\; All registrants must complete WAIVERS with location set to CITY&nbsp\;to participate. In the case of inclement weather\, we will reschedule to February 24. Please email us with any questions.&nbsp\;Thank you for your interest in supporting Friends of the Reedy River! We look forward to seeing you soon!&nbsp\;
