DESCRIPTION:
Friends of the Reedy River is holding a Native Plant Installation Volunteer Work Day&nbsp\;at the Cleveland Park Stables Rain Gardens&nbsp\;on&nbsp\;Thursday\, March 14 from 8:30 - 11:30am!&nbsp\;

&nbsp\;

We will be installing over 200 new native plants in the rain gardens and along the river bank during this volunteer workday. This will not only improve the rain gardens aesthetic\, but will also help improve water quality in the nearby Reedy River. Native plants improve stormwater infiltration\, reducing runoff and improving soil stability while filtering out unwanted pollutants from runoff.&nbsp\; We will teach volunteers about the importance of rain gardens\, riparian buffer zones\, and native plants. This is a great event for all experience levels!

&nbsp\;

Rain gardens\, or bioretention areas\, are shallow landscaped depressions designed to collect\, temporarily store\, filter\, and infiltrate stormwater runoff from developed sites. They help protect streams and rivers by improving stormwater quality and by mimicking natural hydrology to help reduce runoff\, channel erosion\, and flooding. The rain gardens in the Stables area of Cleveland Park need new native plants to fortify the original planting to ensure they are able to perform properly and stay functional and beautiful for years to come.&nbsp\;

Please come prepared to get dirty -- long pants &amp\; closed toe shoes are strongly recommended. Please bring a water bottle\, sun protection or rain gear\, gardening gloves if you have them\, and any other supplies you will need to feel comfortable in a group outdoors. All other supplies and tools will be provided.&nbsp\;

&nbsp\;

Thank you for your interest in supporting Friends of the Reedy River! We look forward to seeing you soon!&nbsp\; &nbsp\;

&nbsp\;
