2024 Fall River Cleanup

2024 Fall River Cleanup

September 21st 2024 ( 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM )

Join Friends of the Reedy River on Saturday, September 21 from 9 - 11:30 am for our 2024 Fall River Cleanup presented by Grand Bohemian Lodge Greenville! Check-in will be from 8:30-9am before the cleanup begins. In the event of inclement weather, the cleanup will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, September 28.

We will have a registration cap for each site to ensure we don’t put undue pressure on the river or our resources at any one location, so be sure to register before your preferred location fills up! Everyone must register individually and must have their own separate signed waivers. There are no group registrations available for this cleanup. People who wish to be at the same site as their friends, family, or coworkers should sign up as soon as possible once registration opens on August 26. Registration will officially close on September 15 or sooner as sites reach their registration caps.

Cleanup Site Locations for this year’s Fall Cleanup:
  • Riverside Apartments near Swamp Rabbit Cafe (Volunteer Info Here)

    • Check-in behind Riverside Apartments at 1121 Tsali Circle near the intersection of Hampton Ave. & Patterson St. Parking will be available in the rear parking lot of Riverside Apartments (do not park in the front of Riverside’s Parking Lot) and across the street at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church parking lots on Old Bleachery Rd.

    • This location will focus on cleaning the Reedy River behind Riverside Apartments (near Swamp Rabbit Cafe), upstream from Swamp Rabbit Cafe along the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and the Reedy River along the Swamp Rabbit Trail between West Washington Street and the railroad crossing at  E. Bramlett Street. Most volunteers should be prepared to get in the water. Some can help taxi litter from the river to the designated trash pick-up points. Please bring waders if you have them as some areas with high concentrations of litter can be difficult to access otherwise. There are restrooms available at this location.

  • Cleveland Park near Greenville Zoo (Volunteer Info Here)

    • Please park in the Greenville Zoo’s secondary parking lot (not their primary parking lot near the main Zoo entrance, but the parking lot closer to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial). Look for our check-in table near the SW corner of the parking lot that is closest to Richland Creek.

    • Volunteers at this location will remove litter from the waters of Richland Creek and the Reedy River and their banks in Cleveland Park near the Zoo and along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. There are public restrooms near this cleanup location.

  • S. Hudson to Westfield Street, downstream of Unity Park (Volunteer Info Here)

    • Check-in and park in the 355 S. Hudson St. Parking Lot (located behind A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School and next to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, near the intersection of the SRT and S. Hudson).

    • This location’s volunteers will focus on removing litter from the river and the surrounding wetlands on either side of the Swamp Rabbit Trail between S. Hudson Street and Westfield Street, and can move upstream to Unity Park, too. We will be partnering with the SC Aquarium to test their litter collection tracking at this site. There are public restrooms near this cleanup location. Volunteers who wish to get in the water at this site are encouraged to wear waders and some waders will be provided at this location.

  • Conestee Nature Preserve (Volunteer Info Here)

    • We are still finalizing details for a location at Conestee Nature Preserve! Please check back soon for updated information.

  • Log Shoals Road (Volunteer Info Here)

    • Check-in and park at 2561 Standing Springs Rd., Greenville SC, 29605

    • This site is both in and out of the water. We will focus on cleaning the banks of the Reedy in a neighborhood off of Log Shoals Road and remove debris from the river itself in the same area. No public restroom available at this location.

Specific site information will be emailed to registered volunteers during the week before the Cleanup and posted here on our website.

Please plan to dress appropriately. Wear clothes that can get wet & dirty, and waders or boots if you have them. Closed toe shoes are required. FoRR will provide all other necessary items such as gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, tools, etc. We will follow up with additional details about what to expect the week before the cleanup.

After the cleanup, volunteers are encouraged to join us at our Fall Cleanup Afterparty Celebration at Southernside Brewing (25 Delano Drive Unit D, Greenville, South Carolina 29601) to celebrate our hard work!

We can’t wait to see everyone at the river soon!  Please contact us with any questions.
