9/8/2025 Update:

The registration period for the 2025 Fall River Sweep has now closed at maximum volunteer capacity! We can't wait to see you all at the River soon! Details for each site location will be emailed to registered volunteers and posted below during the week of the Cleanup. Thank you!

Missed registering in time?  For those who can’t join us, please consider registering for the 9/25 Boyds Mill Pond cleanup or head out to your community and do your own litter sweep, then join FoRR at Southernside Brewing Company for the after-party! On Saturday, September 20 from 11 AM - 3 PM, Southernside Brewing Co. is hosting a profit-share: a portion of the proceeds of any beer or food purchases will benefit Friends of the Reedy River!

Site Locations for this year’s Fall River Sweep:

  • Riverside Apartments near Swamp Rabbit Cafe -  View Volunteer Info Email

    • Check-in behind Riverside Apartments at 1121 Tsali Circle near the intersection of Hampton Ave. & Patterson St. Parking will be available in the rear parking lot of Riverside Apartments (do not park in the front of Riverside’s Parking Lot) and across the street at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church parking lots on Old Bleachery Rd.

    • This location will focus on cleaning the Reedy River behind Riverside Apartments (near Swamp Rabbit Cafe), upstream from Swamp Rabbit Cafe along the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and the Reedy River along the Swamp Rabbit Trail between West Washington Street and the railroad crossing at  E. Bramlett Street. This is an in-the-water river sweep. Most volunteers should please be prepared to walk in the river since most litter is in the water. There are many shallow areas of water, but please bring waders if you have them as some areas with high concentrations of litter are in slightly deeper water and can be difficult to access otherwise. There are restrooms available at this location.

  • S. Hudson to Westfield Street, downstream of Unity Park - View Volunteer Info Email

    • Check-in and park in the 355 S. Hudson St. Parking Lot (located behind A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School and next to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, near the intersection of the SRT and S. Hudson).

    • This location’s volunteers will focus on removing litter from the river and the surrounding wetlands on either side of the Swamp Rabbit Trail between S. Hudson Street and Westfield Street, and can move upstream in the river into Unity Park. Volunteers who wish to get in the water at this site are encouraged to wear waders and some waders will be provided at this location.

  • Cancer Survivors Park - View Volunteer Info Email

    • Check-in at Cancer Survivors Park Center for Hope and Healing at 52 Cleveland St, Greenville, SC 29601. The CSP parking lot is the primary parking location for volunteers at this site. Overflow parking located in the parking lot of the adjacent law office at 24 Cleveland St.

    • This site will be primarily in the water and on the banks of the Reedy River near Cancer Survivors Park just downstream of Falls Park. The banks are steep in some areas and most volunteers should be prepared to be in the water.

  • Cleveland Park near Greenville Zoo - View Volunteer Info Email

    • Please park in the Greenville Zoo’s secondary parking lot (the parking lot closest to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial). Check-in will be at Cleveland Park Shelter #30, located near the playground.

    • Volunteers at this location will remove litter from the waters of the Reedy River and its banks in Cleveland Park near the Zoo and near Cleveland Park Stables along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Most volunteers should be prepared to get in the water at this site. This site will require walking down the Swamp Rabbit Trail to one of the main cleanup access points, located near Cleveland Park Stables. There are restrooms near this cleanup check-in location.

  • Conestee Nature Preserve - View Volunteer Info Email

    • Please park in the County Park parking lot at 840 Mauldin Road, then walk to the main entrance to Conestee Nature Preserve to find our check-in table. Check-in will be near Conestee Nature Preserve's main entrance where the large archway sign marks the trailhead.

    • Volunteers in this area will clean up along the streambank near the Reedy River bridge at CNP’s main entrance and some volunteers will work in the water. There are public restrooms at this location.

More detailed site information will be emailed to registered volunteers the week of the River Sweep and posted here on our website.

Please plan to dress appropriately. Wear clothes that can get wet & dirty, and waders or boots if you have them. Closed toe shoes are required. FoRR will provide all other necessary items such as gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, tools, etc. We will follow up via email with additional details about what to expect the week of the cleanup.

After the cleanup, volunteers are encouraged to join us at our Fall River Sweep Afterparty Celebration at Southernside Brewing Co. (25 Delano Drive Unit D, Greenville, SC 29601) to celebrate our hard work!

We can’t wait to see everyone at the river soon!  Please contact us with any questions.

Registration for FoRR Fall River Sweep

Join Friends of the Reedy River on Saturday, September 20 for our 2025 Fall River Sweep! Check-in will be from 8:30 - 9 AM, we will work to collect litter from 9 - 11 AM, and the cleanup will conclude at 11:30 AM. In the event of inclement weather, the River Sweep will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, September 27.

It's important to keep in mind that our River Sweeps are primarily in-the-water cleanup events. You should come dressed to get in the water. While there are some opportunities for picking trash along the riverbank and river's edge, the primary need is to get trash out of the Reedy. To do that, volunteers should be ready and able to get in the Reedy, ready to make a difference and keep our river clean.

Registration for the River Sweep will open on Monday, August 25.
We will have a registration cap for each site to ensure we don’t put undue pressure on the river or our resources at any one location, so be sure to register before your preferred location fills up! Everyone must register individually and must have their own separate signed waivers and emergency contact info. There are no group registrations available for this event. People who wish to be at the same site as their friends, family, or coworkers should sign up as soon as possible once registration opens on August 25 . Registration will officially close on September 7, or sooner as sites reach their registration caps.

The registration period for 2025 Fall River Sweep has closed. Thank you!
