2024 Spring River Cleanup

2024 Spring River Cleanup

April 13th 2024 ( 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM )

Update 2: All registered volunteers should have received an email from [email protected] at 2 PM on 4/9.  Any email addresses previously unsubscribed could not be emailed or re-added.
Volunteer information can also be found at the links below (see "Volunteer Info Here" by each site listing).

Update 1:  All cleanup locations have reached maximum capacity and cannot accept any additional registrations. Thank you for understanding!

Join Friends of the Reedy River on Saturday, April 13 from 9 - 11:30 am for our 2024 Spring River Cleanup! Check-in will be from 8:30-9 am before the cleanup begins. In the event of inclement weather, the cleanup will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, April 20.

We will have a registration cap for each site to ensure we don’t put undue pressure on the river or our resources at any one location, so be sure to register before your favorite location fills up! Everyone must register individually and must have their own separate signed waivers. There are no group registrations available for this cleanup. People who wish to be at the same site as their friends, family, or coworkers should sign up as soon as possible once registration opens on March 18. Registration will officially close on April 7 or once all locations are full.

We want to thank our presenting sponsor, Dapper Ink, and our afterparty sponsor, Southernside Brewing Co., for helping us maintain our community's treasure of the Reedy River. We could not do this project without them!

Cleanup Site Locations for this year’s Spring Cleanup:
  • Montague Road near Berea Middle School    MONTAGUE RD. VOLUNTEER INFO HERE

    • Check in at the Friends of the Reedy River sign-in table located on the wide, grassy shoulder along Montague Road. Our Site Leaders will be waiting with supplies to check you in the morning of the cleanup.

  • Riverside Apartments near Swamp Rabbit Cafe      RIVERSIDE VOLUNTEER INFO HERE

    • Check-in behind Riverside Apartments at 1121 Tsali Circle near the intersection of Hampton Ave. & Patterson St. Parking will be available in the rear parking lot of Riverside Apartments (do not park in the front of Riverside’s Parking Lot) and across the street at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church parking lots on Old Bleachery Rd.

    • This location will focus on cleaning the Reedy River immediately behind Riverside Apartments (near Swamp Rabbit Cafe), and the Reedy River along the Swamp Rabbit Trail between West Washington Street and the railroad crossing at  E. Bramlett Street. Most volunteers should be prepared to get in the water, or can help taxi litter from the river to the designated trash pick-up points. Please bring waders if you have them as some areas with high concentrations of litter can be difficult to access otherwise.

  • S. Hudson to Westfield Street, downstream of Unity Park     S. HUDSON VOLUNTEER INFO HERE

Overflow parking located in the parking lot of the adjacent law office at 24 Cleveland St.

    • This site will be in the water and on the banks of the Reedy River near Cancer Survivors Park just downstream of Falls Park. No public restroom available at this location.

    • Check-in and park at 2561 Standing Springs Rd., Greenville SC, 29605

    • This site is both in and out of the water  as we focus on cleaning the banks of the Reedy in a neighborhood off of Log Shoals Road and remove debris from the river itself in the same area. No public restroom available at this location.

Specific site information will be emailed to registered volunteers during the week before the Cleanup and posted here on our website.

Please plan to dress appropriately. Wear clothes that can get wet & dirty, and waders or boots if you have them. Closed-toe shoes are required. We recommend bringing a towel and/or change of clothes for after the cleanup. FoRR will provide all other necessary items such as gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, tools, etc. We will follow up with additional details about what to expect the week before the cleanup.

After the cleanup, volunteers are encouraged to join us at our Spring Cleanup Afterparty Celebration at Southernside Brewing (25 Delano Drive Unit D, Greenville, South Carolina 29601) to celebrate our hard work!

We can’t wait to see everyone at the river soon!  Please contact us with any questions.
